Description

Concerned about radiation in your Bluefin? We've addressed it here

Our fresh farmed bluefin tuna (Thunnus orientalis) sashimi loins are used to make the highest quality maguro in sushi bars. Farmed bluefin tuna are prized due to their high fat content, which makes the meat melt in your mouth. Our fresh farmed Pacific bluefin are caught in nets, then transported to open water pens and fed for almost a year in tuna farms in Mexico.

If you plan on searing/cooking this tuna, you may wish to order yellowfin tuna instead of farmed fatty bluefin. Farmed bluefin has a high fat content, which may cause the cooked fish to have a stronger fish aroma and taste.

LIMITED SUPPLY - We typically carry farmed bluefin tuna year round, but sometimes it is unavailable due to weather and supply conditions.

While Pacific bluefin is considered overfished in some areas, it is not considered threatened. The U.S is working with ICCAT to rebuild wild bluefin stocks and adheres to strict catch regulations. U.S fisheries generally harvest a small fraction of the total Pacific-wide bluefin harvest, and represent only two percent of the average annual landings from all fleets fishing in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Please read the following material on Pacific bluefin to gain a better idea of why we have decided to continue to offer this species

So Disapponting February 17, 2014
Reviewer: lmlwilliams from scottsdale, AZ United States
I had to throw out a good chunk of it due to it being very "brown" -not sure if it was freezer burn or just some random discoloration. Once I trimmed off that part, the rest had minimal blood line, and it tasted fresh. However, I must say, it didn't look anything like the picture- it was very pale that my husband could not even enjoy it thinking it was something else other than tuna. So, I was pretty disappointed to say the least.

DA BOMB!!! February 16, 2014
Reviewer: AL from El Paso, TX United States
I live in El Paso, TX where finding fresh fish is hard even if you are willing to pay premium bucks.  I started ordering from CAOP a few months back and have to say I'm very impressed with the quality and freshness of their fish so far.  I'm Asian and have been eating raw fish my entire life, and it's very hard to please me (call me snotty if you will. LOL).

Anyway, this farmed blue fin tuna in particular was really really good.  So buttery with a lovely texture.  I highly recommend this fish for great tasting sashimi.  This tuna is truly DA BOMB!!!

Never ordered this before, as we usually get the yellowfin blocks.

This tuna was great. flavor, texture and color were very high quality. We ate it sashimi style.

To Anon Reviewer below February 28, 2013
Reviewer: Michael from New York, NY United States
Hi Anon,

The white and Pink colored parts are of higher quality (Fat Content) than the dark red sections.  If you got a full piece of Pink and White Bluefin tuna at a maguro price consider yourself very lucky.

Is this blue fin tuna? June 2, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from FL United States
I just received three pound of tail section of tuna. and the meat color does not even look like Blue Fin Tuna.  The color of meat are white to pink instead of dark red.  Are you sure this is Blue fin TUNA?
