Blue Circle Salmon is the first Norwegian-farmed salmon to earn a yellow “Good Alternative” rating from the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch. Farmed without added chemicals, added hormones, or genetically modified ingredients, Blue Circle Salmon provides a rich buttery texture and clean aftertaste. It is wonderful served raw as crudo, sashimi or salmon sushi (sake), and also cooks up beautifully. Try it pan seared or baked for best results.
The Blue Circle brand is a collaboration between Norwegian fish farmers Kvarøy and Selsøyvik, importer Blue Circle Foods, feed supplier BioMar and Whole Foods, who together developed an innovative fish feed. Unlike conventional feeds, which are produced with fish caught solely for feed, Blue Circle Salmon is made with trimmings from wild-caught fish that are already bound for human consumption. The trimmings are pressed into oil that is cleaned to reduce environmental contaminants. Further, Blue Circle is the first farmed salmon to require less than one pound of food to create a pound of fish, which helps conserve marine resources.
